The Onidaishi statue of the Monjusenji Temple is 20.3-cm tall and is said to be made in the 17th - 18th century. Legend says that Tsunodaishi is actually Ryogen, who was a restorer of the Tendai school of Mahayana Buddhism and a chief abbot of Enryaku-ji. He turned himself into a oniic god for the people to drive away evil spirits. His representation as a oni statue in this temple is considered unusual.
