This temple is said to be opened by Ninmon Yoro Period (717 - 723). In the past, it was called Tokoji Temple, and it was located at a slightly different place than the current one. It was rebuilt during the Kanbun Era (1661-1673) and was renamed as Maruonoji Temple. Currently, the main hall houses Fudomyooh, and the auditorium, which is the former main hall, houses Yakushi Nyorai.
