Fudomyooh, who is sitting in the Mudo Temple, is worshipped by the local people. The Wayo style, developed during the latter period of the Heian Era, influenced this sculpture profoundly, and it is said to be a typical style of the Kunisaki Peninsula Buddha. It is commonly known as a Buddha who expresses anger and destroys oni with a treasured sword, rope, and flames, but the Fudomyooh in the Kunisaki Peninsula is a deity that watches over the monks and has a relatively soft expression. Now, the Shusho-e is performed as a festival to bring good fortune to the locals.
