From ancient times, Japanese sake is indispensable for shrines and festivals. Kayashima Brewery located in Kunisaki-machi was founded in Meiji 6 (1873). Alcohol is produced using water pumped from the underwater flow of Mt. Futago and Mt. Monjusan. Japanese sake is also indispensable for Shujooni-e rituals in the Kunisaki region, in which the head priest blows alcohol to the oni in one of the ritual procedures.
